Therapy Approaches

Making mental health practical, grounded, and transformative

I offer therapy that brings together science, mindfulness, and practical skill-building. My work is grounded in Mindfulness-integrated Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (MiCBT), trauma-informed care, and—when appropriate—psychedelic cannabis–assisted therapy.

I work with clients in person in Eastern Ontario and virtually across the province. For clinicians and professionals, I also offer teaching and training programs internationally.

In therapy, I help people strengthen awareness of their thoughts, emotions, and body sensations so they can respond to stress with more steadiness and choice. Our work is structured and skills-based, with clear tools you can practice between sessions.

Whether we meet individually, in groups, or through professional training, the goal is simple: to build the internal capacity to regulate, reflect, and move forward in a way that feels sustainable and real.

MiCBT brings together mindfulness and practical therapy skills to help you understand why you feel stuck and how to change it. We focus on the patterns underneath the stress—like strong emotional reactions, worry, or shutting down—so change feels lasting, not temporary.

This approach helps with anxiety, burnout, and the impact of trauma. You’ll learn clear tools to calm your body, steady your mind, and respond to life with more confidence and choice.

Guided psychedelic cannabis therapy session

I offer psychedelic cannabis therapy within a structured and carefully supported process. This work is designed for clients who want to explore patterns more deeply and increase awareness of their emotional and physical experience.

Sessions include preparation, guided therapeutic work, and follow-up integration. The goal is not the psychedelic itself, but how we use it—safely and thoughtfully—to support insight and lasting change.

Individual therapy is a space to slow down and look at what is not working. Many people come feeling overwhelmed, stuck in repeating patterns, or carrying stress that no longer feels manageable.

You may be dealing with anxiety, low mood, burnout, relationship strain, trauma, or something harder to name. Together, we focus on understanding what is happening beneath the surface and building practical skills to help you respond with more steadiness and clarity.

This work is structured, supportive, and grounded in evidence-based care.

Group programs offer a structured way to learn and practice skills in a supportive setting. Each group combines mindfulness training with practical tools you can use in daily life.

There is added strength in working alongside others. Sharing the process builds connection, perspective, and accountability.

Programs include weekly virtual sessions and a one-day, in-person retreat to deepen the work and help you carry the skills forward.

I’m Dr. Alia Offman, a registered psychologist with over 20 years of counselling experience. I work with adults navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, burnout, relationship strain, and life transitions. Many of the people I see are professionals, caregivers, veterans, first responders, and health providers who are used to managing on their own but find that old coping strategies are no longer enough.

My approach is practical and grounded in research. I use mindfulness and cognitive behavioural therapy to help people understand what is happening beneath their reactions and learn skills to respond with more steadiness and choice. Therapy with me is structured, but it is also personal. We move at a pace that feels safe and workable.

In addition to private practice, I teach and train other clinicians in Canada and internationally. I serve as Co-Director of the North American Chapter of the MiCBT Institute and have taught at Carleton University and the University of Ottawa. I have also completed advanced training in psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy and provide clinical leadership to programs working with psychedelics.

At the centre of all of my work is focused on thoughtful care that supports lasting change.

Outside the office, I am a parent in a lively household of kids and animals, which keeps me grounded and reminds me daily that growth is rarely linear.
